Brick replacements - Bricking up - Air Brick Installation

I get asked to do this a lot. Whether it be bricking up an old boiler flu, replacing frost blown bricks, or installing an air brick for better ventilation - we can do it!

A professional brick match service is available but please bear in mind that some bricks do fall out of production. Typically, anything pre-war can usually be matched almost perfectly from a reclaim yard. Anything modern would be found at a builders merchant. However if your house was built somewhere between the 60's and early 00's it can be a grey area if the brick is no longer mass produced or your house was built using rejects. Never the less I always try my best to find what you need!
Copings

I often see garden walls and driveways with damaged engineer bricks soldiered on top. These can be replaced and repointed but for a similar price we can look at stone or concrete copings. The problem here is water sits on top and penetrates the brick, the bricks expand and then come away.
Not only do copings offer a nice touch to your wall but they are far less likely to become damaged by the poor English weather. Budget copings and pier caps do cost more than a brick but they also cover more area so the overall cost isn't as bad as you may think.
Above is merely an example of how attractive a wall can look being topped off with copings compared to the example to the left. This allows the rain water to run off freely and away from the wall.

Chimney Downsizing
A lot of older houses now no longer have the use of a coal or log fire. If your chimney is not in use and its rather tall in size, it's often recommended to have it downsized and capped off rather than repair it. This eliminates the need to maintain it, makes it much safer, and keeps vermin out. The last thing you want is an unused chimney falling from height or an unwanted bee nest. Completely removing a chimney is more costly as it involves additional work to be carried out on your roof. What we can do is drastically reduce it in size and cap it off.
MAKE IT SAFE
Downsizing a chimney that is no longer in use makes it a lot less likely to collapse and keeps its maintenance minimal.
PEST CONTROL
Capping off your chimney will stop unwanted vermin from entering or nesting (birds, bees, wasps, bats). Did you know the cost to remove a honey bee nest from a chimney is approximately £2,000 to £3,000?
MORE ADVANTAGES
A smaller chimney is cheaper to maintain - it wont need repointing or flaunching regularly and there will be no pots for you to keep secure and ventilated. (to keep ventilation we can always add some air bricks).
Did you know when selling your house, even if the chimney is not in use, a surveyor could flag it if it's in poor condition? This could slow down your sale or decrease the property value!
